Discover Spain from an intern's perspective

The Wake Forest University Internship Program in Madrid, in conjunction with European Study Abroad (EUSA), offers qualified WFU students an internship relevant to their field of study. Internships are available in numerous fields, including but not limited to: Advertising, Marketing, Public Relations, Arts, Theatre, Banking & Financial Services, Business, Film and TV, Journalism, Fashion, Multimedia, Hospitality, Law, Non-Party Politics, Party Politics, Contact Psychology, Occupational Therapy & Physical Therapy, and Psychology Research.

Interns work full-time, 4 days a week in their designated placement and will have a 3 day weekend ideal for travel. Each student has a mandatory mid-term review with a member of the on-site internship team to assess progress achieved at the work placement.

In most cases, applicants should have the equivalent of 5 college semesters of Spanish to be eligible for this program. There are some placements available now for students with less Spanish language speaking ability in the following fields: Business, Education, Hospitality, Journalism, Marketing and Tourism.

Program Dates: May 20th to July 18th, 2020.

In most cases students will take BUS 350, which counts for 3 hours of pass/fail elective credit toward graduation. In some cases, students can receive credit from the academic department that corresponds with his or her internship. For example, if you were planning on getting an internship at an art gallery, you would go to the Art department for credit. Students must find a WFU faculty member in the credit-granting department to serve as his or her supervisor for the duration of the internship. The faculty supervisor is responsible for all academics related to the internship and will assign coursework to be completed during the internship. For BUS 350, the academic supervisor will be provided for you. Coursework could include reflective journals, essays, readings, and research papers.

Note: not all academic departments will grant credit for internships. Please meet with Mike Tyson to discuss this process in more detail.
Homestay that includes breakfast and dinner or self-catering apartment with kitchen.

                    • 5 semesters or equivalent of university level Spanish is preferred. There are few English language placements available.
The total cost of summer study abroad can be broken down into four categories:
                    • Program Fee - Usually covers room, in-country travel, international health insurance, excursions, some meals and other costs associated with the program.
                    • Tuition – Students on WFU summer programs pay WFU summer school tuition per credit hour. The 2019 summer rate was $900/per credit hour. Expect a small increase for 2020.
                    • Airfare – Varies per location. Students are responsible for their own airfare unless otherwise noted.
                    • Personal Expenses – These will vary depending on the students' spending habits, cost of living in the destination country, and the number of meals included in the program fee.
                    Program Fee - $7,202
                    Tuition (3hrs) - $2,700
                    Airfare (estimated) - $1,400
                    Personal Expenses (estimated) - $2,000

                    Broaden Your Perspective

At Wake Forest, we believe international learning experiences can significantly impact your intellectual, personal, and professional growth. When studying abroad, book knowledge comes alive. You experience culture and history firsthand. Your perspectives broaden. You leave a student and return a global citizen.
