Discover Sydney from an intern’s perspective

The Wake Forest University Internship Program in Sydney, in conjunction with CEA-CAPA, offers qualified WFU students an internship relevant to their field of study. Internships are available in numerous fields, including but not limited to: Business, Communication, Curating and Archiving, Education, Exercise Science, Finance and Accounting, Human Resources, Journalism, Law and Legal Services, Marketing, Non Profit Administration, Psychology, Public Relations, Publishing, Sales, Sports Administration, Supply Chain and Logistics, Sustainability, and Theatre. 

Interns will work for 6-weeks and work 20 to 30 hours per week (120 – 180 hours total) in their designated placement. You will likely intern during standard business hours Mondays-Fridays and your placement may include in-person, remote, and hybrid work depending on the needs of your host organization.

Sydney, Australia 

One of Australia’s largest cities, Sydney provides a perfect blend of laid-back and high energy, giving every student the opportunity to make the city their own. When you study abroad in Sydney, you can enjoy some of Australia’s most iconic destinations like a local. Catch a wave at Bondi Beach in the morning and experience a breathtaking performance at the iconic Sydney Opera House in the evening. Cultural activities like food crawls, hikes, and museum visits balance your unique coursework options like sustainability and environmental studies, entrepreneurship and innovation, and so much more. With arts, culture, an incredible food scene, and dazzling natural beauty, no two days will be alike for a study abroad student in Sydney.

In most cases students will take CGS 229, which counts for 3 hours of elective credit toward graduation. This course will be taken on site with CEA-CAPA. In some cases, students can receive credit from the academic department that corresponds with his or her internship. For example, if you were planning on getting an internship at an art gallery, you would go to the Art department for credit. 

Note: not all academic departments will grant credit for internships. Please meet with Tyler Favale to discuss this process in more detail.

Students live in student apartments or apartment hotels. Shared rooms. Kitchenette in suite. 

NOTE: All students participating in the WFU Summer Internship program are required to live in program-provided housing. Housing accommodations you may have on campus do not automatically transfer to abroad and certain housing accommodations (single rooms and private bathrooms, for example) may not be available.

• Good academic standing

The total cost of summer study abroad can be broken down into four categories: 

• Program Fee – Usually covers room, in-country travel, international health insurance, excursions, some meals and other costs associated with the program.
• Tuition – Students on WFU summer programs pay WFU summer school tuition per credit hour. The current summer rate is $950/per credit hour. 
• Airfare – Varies per location. Students are responsible for their own airfare unless otherwise noted.
• Personal Expenses – These will vary depending on the students’ spending habits, cost of living in the destination country, and the number of meals included in the program fee.

Passport Information
Students need to check their passport’s expiration date and ensure that it will be valid for at least 6 months after the program’s end date.

Students going on a summer program need to make sure their passport is valid through at least mid-February of the following year.

US passport holders who need to renew their passport should visit the U.S. Department of State’s passport website for information on this process.

Non-US passport holders who need to renew their passport should refer to their home country’s passport office.

Visa Information
If you are a US citizen, you most likely will not require a visa for your summer abroad program. If you do, details will be shared with you by GPS. Non-US passport holders should check with their host country’s embassy or consulate to find out if a visa is required for their program or not.
