                    Summer Session I
Sorrento is a picturesque coastal town overlooking the Bay of Naples in the south of Italy. From its gorgeous cliffs, one can often view Naples itself, Mt Vesuvius and the Isle of Capri. Sorrento’s location is also ideal for exploring the surrounding area: to the south, the best of the peninsula’s unspoiled countryside and, to the east, the Amalfi Coast; to the north, Pompeii and the archaeological sites; offshore, the fabled island of Capri.
The summer Study Abroad Program in Sorrento is designed to help students achieve three basic goals: Introduction to Italian language, an understanding of the Italian people and their culture, and a deeper awareness of their own culture. Students will take an Italian language course (ITA 111, ITA 112, ITA 154, or ITA 212) for transfer credit at the Sant’ Anna Institute. In addition to the language course all students will also take a Humanities course taught by a WFU professor, which will introduce the main aspects in Italian literature with crucial components such as history, art, politics, film studies, and cultural landmarks. Students will earn 6 total credit hours over the 5 week program. Some of the great planned excursions could include a visit to Pompei by train, a visit of Amalfi Coast, a boat excursion to the island of Capri and a day trip to Naples.

The 2020 Humanities course will be HMN 213. Studies in European Literature: Ethics and Fiction (D).
This course will fulfill divisional credit (Div. II) and Humanities minor credit.

The total cost of summer study abroad can be broken down into four categories:
                    • Program Fee - Usually covers room, in-country travel, excursions, some meals and other costs associated with the program.
                    • Tuition – Students on WFU summer programs pay WFU summer school tuition per credit hour. The 2019 summer rate was $900/per credit hour. Expect a small increase for summer 2020.
                    • Airfare (estimated) – Varies per location. Students are responsible for their own airfare unless otherwise noted.
                    • Personal Expenses (estimated) – These will vary depending on the students' spending habits, cost of living in the destination country, and the number of meals included in the program fee. This may also include visa fees, vaccinations, academic supplies/books and other miscellaneous daily expenses.

                    Program Fee (estimated) - $5,400
                    Tuition (3hrs) - $2,700
