Registering for Next Semester

Registration while you are studying abroad is not as difficult as you might expect. The first thing you should do to ensure that you do not miss out on important information about registration is to either regularly access your WFU email account while abroad or be sure to have your WFU email forwarded to another account. You can set up the forwarding service through WIN and you can check your WFU email through mailman.

Check your email frequently during March (spring) or October (fall) for important registration information. The course schedule, dates for major/minor registration and elective registration times and dates are sent out during these months. Please make sure your mailbox is not full. If it is, we cannot get through to you and you will not know these important dates and times.

Prior to registration, please log onto WIN and check your account for holds. (Go to "Virtual Campus", "Academics", "Check Registration Holds & Appointment Times"). If you have a hold on your account you will not be able to register for either major, minor or elective classes. Only the office that places a hold on your account can remove the hold.

You will be notified about registration via email in plenty of time to plan your schedule. A copy of the upcoming term's course schedule will be emailed to your WFU account as a Word document attachment. You can also access the schedule through WIN. The most reliable source of registration information is on WIN since any changes to the course schedule are posted and class openings are listed. You can find the course schedules by going to "Administration", then "Departments", then "Registrar", then click on "Course Schedules" on the bottom left hand side of the page, OR you can log onto WIN and go to InfoCentral, then Forms and Documents library, then Registrar, then Course Schedules, then click whichever schedule you need.

Your major and minor departments are responsible for registering you for those courses. Email your major/minor departments' administrative assistant the major/minor courses you plan to take. You will also need to email your adviser to get a PIN that will enable you to register online for your electives. You will be notified of the dates and times of both major/minor registration and elective registration via email by the registrar's office.

REGISTRATION FOR SPRING 2009

  • Make sure you do not have any holds on your account. You will be unable to register if there is a hold. You can view holds on WIN. If you have a hold, contact the appropriate department; the department placing the hold has to remove the hold.
  • While abroad, please make sure your mailbox is not full so you can receive emails concerning dates and times for registration.
  •  I will begin sending emails with registration reminders the second week of October.
  • October 17th- course booklet available online. I will also attach a copy to an email I send to you.
  •  Oct. 20-Oct.31---Major/minor advising/registration.

You need to email your major adviser and the Admin. Assistant, who will register you for your major courses. You need to contact the administrative assistant in your minor department to register you for your minor courses. (If you fail to contact your major/minor department for registration during the above dates, you will need to register for your major/minor courses during elective registration.)

**Ask your major adviser for your PIN so you can register for your elective courses**

  • November 3rd -14th ---Elective registration (rounds).
  • If you register yourself from abroad , you will register two days earlier than your class at Wake. This is to allow for computer inaccessibility and time differences. Your day and time to register will be posted on WIN (Virtual Campus>Check Holds and Registration Status) and reflects this two day advantage. The time listed is Eastern Standard Time. You will have to adjust for where you are.
  • You will register in rounds. You will get 8 hours the first round and 8 hours the second round which will be one week later. You get 16 hours total during pre-registration. Your hours will be upped to17 the first day of class in the spring. I cannot change that for you.
  • If you are a declared major/minor, the first round you will get 4 hours above the number of major/minor courses for which you have been pre-registered by your major/minor departments. The second round, you will get the remainder of your hours up to 16.
  •  If you choose a course which requires permission of instructor or one for which you do not have a prerequisite, you need to email the professor for approval and forward that approval to me. I will have to register you for the course. Please look carefully to see if any of your courses require POI or a prerequisite you do not have.
  •  If you need me to help you register, you must include your PIN in your email request. I cannot register you without a PIN. I will register you on your appropriate date at Wake (ie.Seniors-Monday, Juniors-Tuesday, Sophomores-Wednesday)

If you have any problems or questions concerning registration while abroad, you can contact Sharon Payne at paynese@wfu.edu or call (336) 758-3725.
