Visas

Many countries require you to have a visa before entering the country. A visa is official permission to enter a country and stay for a determined period of time. You must have a vaild passport to apply for a visa. The visa stamp for a given country will be placed in your actual passport. To learn about student visa requirements, please visit the U.S. State Department website: http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/cis/cis_1765.html.

Some countries charge for the visa; others do not. Some consulates also require students to appear in person to submit application materials. Visa processing can take anywhere from several days to several weeks, depending on the country's procedures. For detailed information about the requirements for a student visa, please visit the website of the consulate for the country in which you plan to study.

Wake Forest Programs
The Center for International Studies helps students with the visa process to the Wake programs in London, Venice and Vienna. Information can be found in your online application. Visa procedures for all other Wake Forest programs will be explained by your faculty director.

Affiliate Programs
Affiliate program providers and other outside universities will provide visa information to you once you have been accepted. It is essential that you follow all visa instructions as outlined and apply in a timely manner.

IMPORTANT: Until you have received your visa, you are advised to refrain from making international travel plans in the months preceding your study abroad semester.
