Your study abroad journey begins here. With the WFU Center for International Studies' online program search and application system you can view all of the opportunities available to you and complete many of the necessary steps online.
1. Attend a Study Abroad Information Session. Sessions are held weekly at 11:00 a.m. in Carswell Hall, Room 019. For dates, check the Study Abroad Info Session Dates. 2. Research program opportunities. Search programs online to learn more about them. You can search by several different criteria, but for best results, limit your search to only one or two. Consider the following questions as you research programs:
When do you want to study abroad? How long do you want to be abroad? A summer, semester, year? Do you want courses in English or another language? Do you need specific classes for your major or minor?
3. Meet with a Study Abroad Advisor. Call 336.758.5938 or stop by the Center for International Studies in Carswell Hall, Room 027 Carswell Hall, to schedule a meeting. Meetings are scheduled Monday-Thursday and typically last 30 minutes. During your meeting, you will have the chance to discuss your options in greater detail.
4. Apply online. Once you have selected a program, follow the link to apply online. All students must submit an application via the Wake Forest online system. Follow the instructions to create your personal homepage. Wake Forest students will need their username and password. Non-Wake Forest students must complete the online form before gaining access to the application system. Be sure to complete all the steps as outlined on your homepage.
Affiilate program providers (Boston University, CIEE, IFSA-Butler, IES, New York University, Syracuse University, etc.) require a separate application in addition to the one required by the Wake Forest Center for International Studies. You must submit a signature document to the Center for International Studies confirming you have sent your application to the appropriate provider. Be sure to follow the instructions on your homepage. Note that affiliate programs may also have additional application fees.
IMPORTANT: Acceptance to study abroad by the Center for International Studies does not confirm acceptance into affiliate programs. Applicants for affiliate programs must be approved by both the Center for International Studies and the program provider.
5.Check your homepage regularly. After you have completed the application, check your homepage and Wake Forest email regularly. You will receive acceptance notification via email. Reminder notices will also be posted or emailed to you.
6. Confirm participation. Once accepted, you must confirm your participation within the specified time frame. Login to your homepage and follow the instructions to confirm. Students who do not commit within the time frame are subject to automatic withdrawal. If your program requires a deposit, money is due upon confirmation.
7. Complete acceptance materials and course approvals. Once you are accepted/confirmed, you must submit all post-acceptance materials. This includes course approval forms (for affiliate programs), health forms, liability forms, etc. Required post-acceptance materials will be listed on your personal homepage. Study abroad participation is contingent upon submission of these materials.
8. Attend pre-departure orientation. Attendance at one of the pre-departure meetings is mandatory. You will be notified of orientation dates and times after your application is approved and accepted.
9. Engage in your World Class Experience!
